Mesmo bom é numa tarde e num sítio conseguir juntar tantas coisas de que gosto: cestas bonitas e bem feitas por artesãos que já tive o prazer de conhecer, o trabalho do Machado em várias formas, e o bom gosto e as bicicletas do Miguel, que é 1/3 da Veloculture, a loja dedicada a assuntos ciclísticos com mais estilo deste país, que fica no Porto.
Sinto-me como se tivesse juntado os ingredientes certos para que mais coisas bonitas e bem-feitas comecem a aparecer, e agora é só esperar um pouco por elas.

It’s so nice to be able to get together in one place so many things I like: beautiful baskets well made by artisans I already had the pleasure to meet, Machado‘s work in various forms, and Miguel‘s excellent taste, that happens to be 1/3 of Veloculture, the most stylish shop in the country dedicated to all cycling affairs, located in Porto.
I feel like I have just mixed the right ingredients that will make really nice and well made things come along, and now I just have to wait for them to start popping out.
**The “condessa” (means countess in portuguese) is this basket over here, but I’ll get to it later.
O Saber Fazer é o novo projecto a que me tenho vindo a dedicar. É um projecto de registo de técnicas tradicionais e semi-industriais em Portugal que tem como propósito documentar objectivamente e com detalhe várias artes que se têm vindo a tornar cada vez raras, principalmente pela falta de aprendizes e pela noção geral errada de que se tratam de processos obsoletos.
Quem me costuma ler já por aqui apanhou alguns destes registos, mas isto começou antes sequer de eu ter este blog e de pensar em fazê-lo, quando fotografei e observei as obras de restauro que deram origem a este livro.
Apesar de publicar bastantes fotografias e explicar sucintamente o que tenho observado, para cada um dos registos que tenho vindo a fazer organizei muita mais informação do que a que publiquei até agora, e um dos objectivos próximos é precisamente estruturar essa informação para que possa ser transmitida de forma útil e prática. Por isso, espero em breve ter novidades sobre esta fase.
Para já, todas as visitas estão reunidas numa página dedicada ao assunto, incluindo textos já publicados, fotografias e vídeos que deverão crescer num futuro muito próximo.

Saber Fazer, that means something like “knowing how to make” in portuguese, is a new project I have been working on. The goal is to document traditional and semi-industrial techniques in Portugal, that are harder to find each day, in part due to the lack of apprentices and the overall idea that these are obsolete arts.
If you have been reading me for a while, you may have seen records of these visits, but this started long before I had this blog, when I photographed and observed the restoration works that ended in this book.
Although I tend to publish a large amount of photos and try to summarize each of the processes in my posts, I have a lot more information that hasn’t been published, and my next goal is precisely to find a way to publish that in a useful and practical way. I hope to have news about this soon.
For now, all the visits are gathered at the website dedicated to the project, including all the texts, photos and videos that should increase in a near future.
