Hoje, no Saber Fazer, está o registo que fiz quando fui a Bucos lavar a lã com a D.Ilídia, no início de Janeiro.
À partida lavar a lã parece uma coisa simples, mas é preciso saber alguma coisa mais para conseguir retirar todo o ludro e gordura sem usar detergentes ou estragar a estrutura natural da fibra.
Aqui está demonstrado, do início ao fim, como a D.Ilídia o faz. Um processo aparentemente simples, mas que tem alguns truques. Desde a temperatura certa para a água em que a lã é amolentada, passando por nunca apertar a lã, até usar um cesto de varas mergulhado no rio, não porque seja pitoresco, mas simplesmente porque a água corrente é ultra-eficaz a eliminar a sujidade.

Trabalhar a lã com a D.Ilídia é do melhor que há, até porque a seguir ao trabalho vem sempre um lanche com alheira e pão, ambos feitos por ela, que são óptimos. Faço a “pandenga”* com ela em qualquer dia da semana, é só ela chamar.

Today, at Saber Fazer, I published the wool washing process with D.Ilídia, that I photographed in early January.
Washing the wool sounds really simple at first, but you need to know a few details to manage to remove all the dirt and grease without using any detergents or ruin the natural structure of the wool fiber.
Here, D.Ilídia shows us how to do it, from beggining to end. A process that looks simple at first, but that has a few tricks, from knowing the right temperature for the water, to using a woven basket to dip the wool in the river because this is a highly efficient way of removing all the dirt.

Working with Ilídia is one of the best things ever, not just because I love her, but also because afterwards we get to have some of her homemade bread and sausages. I’ll do the “pandenga”* with her anytime.
